Train the Mental Side of your Game

I work with athletes and teams, from middle school through the pros, on the mental skills that let them play up to what they're capable of.

HI, I’M BEN

I Coached Before I Studied This

A basketball team and their coaches pose for a team photo in a gymnasium. The players are wearing white jerseys with 'OAKS' printed on them, and the coaches are dressed in formal attire. They are seated and standing in front of a large banner and a basketball court.
A basketball coach instructs young players during a practice in an indoor gym. The coach, dressed in a gray t-shirt and black shorts, is bending down with a basketball in hand, while the children, in sports gear, are gathered around him holding basketballs. The gym has a basketball hoop and a wooden ceiling.

I've been on the sideline with high school players, 5-star recruits, college athletes and pros. Now I train the part of the game that doesn't show up in the box score. Focus, confidence, and how you respond after a mistake.

Process

  1. Discovery Call

A free 15 minute call. Tell me what's going on and what you want to change. I'll tell you honestly whether I can help and what it would look like.

  2. Getting to Know the Athlete

Our first session is about the athlete. Their sport, their position, their season, and the moments where the game gets hard. Parents are part of this conversation as well. After our initial session we can talk about plans moving forward.

  3. I Come Watch

I see the athlete at a game or a practice. That shows me what's really happening in the moments that matter. If we are not in the same area there are others ways I can understand more (ex. watching film, talking to head coach, etc).

  4. Training the Mental Side

Weekly or biweekly sessions, in person or online. We build skills like focus, confidence, and a next play mindset, and we practice them the way you'd practice a jump shot.

  5. A Plan in Writing

After every session you get a written plan. The athlete knows what to work on, and parents know what we're building.

Why Work With Me

A therapist is the right call for anxiety, depression, or anything clinical, and I'll tell you when I think that's the case. What I do is built around this athlete's season and position, and it gets trained like any other skill.

I've Coached

High school, high level recruits, college and pro. I already know the fourth-quarter situation they're describing.

I Come Watch

Every package includes a game or practice observation.

CMPC Certified

Graduate degree, mentored hours, and an exam through AASP.

It's in Writing

A written plan after every session for the athlete and parents.

Results, in their words

  • "Our son has benefited immensely from training with Ben. He's cleaned up his jump shot and gotten more comfortable in the paint, but the bigger change has been mental: sharper focus in practices and games, a stronger next-play mindset, and more confidence."

Parent of a high school basketball player

  • "I used to let one missed shot affect me the whole game. Ben gave me a reset cue that snaps me back in and lets me forget the last shot. He's understanding, and he's extremely helpful at getting you past mental challenges."

    Landon Seaman (Professional Basketball Player)

  • Ben is very skilled in his craft of understanding how people tick and how to address each individual situation as it comes to him. He has been able to reach 15 individual players and numerous different staff members, including myself on a personal level in a vulnerable sense to open up and allow him to help them achieve both performance and personal satisfaction that we did not know possible.
